Our Story at McConnell’s Furnishings and Upholstery is based in Adelaide and is named after John’s grandfather Patrick McConnell who was a self-taught cabinet maker, wood turner, furniture polisher and upholsterer. John Murray (AKA Not McConnell) migrated to Australia from Navan, Ireland, with 2 suitcases, furniture upholstery certificates and an attitude that life in Australia would be better and that he could expand his career as an upholsterer. The once 21 year old migrant worked in various places within Australia and also a stint in New York before he settled back in his home town (Adelaide) and began McConnell’s Furnishings & Upholstery in 1995, in a shed in Edward Street, Norwood.
The current location at 134 Magill Road, Norwood, is where John and his team have set up a unique and eclectic retail showroom and workshop. The new premises allows McConnell’s to diversify in areas other than upholstery. Look out for the latest updates of our Art exhibitions.
McConnell’s Furnishings and Upholstery custom makes and restores all types of furniture including antiques. The business upholsters commercial fit outs as well.
